U.M.A. UK Open High Kneeling Judo Ne Waza/Groundfighting Championships
Sunday 19th August 2007

Yet again, another great, enjoyable, friendly and successful day, all without incident yet again, and all this with lots of fantastic fights, the turn out for the Championships was a little under 70 competitors, with August being the main holiday month, it was still an excellent turnout and the standard of the Players and fights were yet again excellent to say the least, hence there were a lot of excellent fights yet again, it was obvious that the standard of the Players old and new to our Championships so far this year and the fights etc, at our Championships, is getting better, so well done to everyone of the Players.

Again, and with all the 17 Weight Categories that were in play, we still finished and closed the Championships before 4.00pm, better than on time, yet again, so a Big, Big Thankyou to all the Competitors, Coach's, Spectators, Table Officials and First Aid Officials who helped run and make the Championships the success they were yet again.

And a Big Thankyou to our Special Guest Referee; Sensei Leigh Hitchen from J16 and Sandbach Judo Club for a great Job Well Done for Refereeing some of the Junior and Cadet Weight Categories.

Senior Player (16 years old and over) of the Day was Paul Sawyer from Matsumachi Judo Club in Bournemouth, he is proving to be a major force with fantastic results at or past Championships, however, Paul exceeded his previous results with a 3rd Place Bronze in the Male 19 and over U75kg, a 3rd Place Bronze in the Male 19 and over Open Weight and finally, a Championship 1st Place Win and Gold in the Masters Open Weight Category, and yet he's still a young 45 year old... Well done Paul, I think we'll all have a little of what you've got, so, how many Shredded Wheat do you eat anyway...( three? ).

Junior Player (15 years old and under) of the Day goes to 10 year old Eric Ham from Glossop Judo Club in Derbyshire, Winning both his own Weight Category; the Peewee Boys 10 years old and below, Under 30kg and Peewee Boys 10 years old and below, Open Weight, this young Player is one to watch for sure...

And well done to Richard Willis, from Fighting Fit in Stone, Staffordshire who took a 2nd Place Silver Medal in the Male 19 years old and over U95kg and a 1st Place Win in the Male 19 years old and over Open Weight Category. Richard recently fought his way on the F.I.L.A. grappling mat the hard way to prove his worth, and has just been picked for the Great Britain F.I.L.A. Grappling Squad, and he will be Fighting and Representing Great Britain in Turkey in September, Good Luck from everyone here at the U.M.A.
